Sea therapy

"We live in an existence where everything goes fast, so we need breathing holes. It's the beach for me – a breather. It gives me the wildest rush to jump into the sea. It's like I'm put in my place, and it's impossible to be in a bad mood afterwards. I become grounded and use all my senses; feeling the movements of the sea, listening to the waves. It does something good for the soul.”

Why does the sea have a therapeutic effect?

In Denmark, we love jumping into the sea all year round. Besides being fun and refreshing, sea bathing also has a positive effect on our mental and physical health.

What happens in the body when we immerse ourselves in the cold water?

• The body absorbs the vitamins, minerals, mineral salts and amino
nosyrs, which the seawater contains
• We get color in our cheeks and a feeling of being alive because blood-
the throughput increases
• Attention is sharpened and one is present in the moment
• The stress levels in the body drop, and the mood gets an endorphin-
boost
• Sea baths can give an immediate feeling of happiness, and the effect lasts
by the rest of the day
• The immune system is strengthened
Even if you don't jump into the cold water, the sea still makes a big difference to your well-being. It is healthy for the respiratory system to inhale sea air, the sound of the waves' movements has a meditative effect, and looking far out over the sea can give space for reflection.
